Photo Essay

The subject of my photo essay is Nostalgia. I captured these images at my grandparents house. I selected this place because my grandparents are extremely close to me and the objects scattered throughout their home have to do with my theme of Memories. This is important to me because I have been very close to my grandparents forever and they're more than important to me. Therefore I wanted to photograph them and their home. My images capture the narrative and story of my essay because each of the images show vintage objects that my grandparents have owned for a very long time. For example, the cell phone photo specifically represent vintage because nobody uses those types of phones anymore. The arrangement of my photos tell a particular story. #1 walking into the home and my grandparents life, #2 the composition of this photo emphasizes his hand in a way to bring out the wrinkles and old age and then the neck of the banjo leads into the next image, #3 From the banjo leading into this photo it then leads down to the vintage glass cup with a unique pattern of flowers, #4 The pattern of image #3 ties in with the pattern of the flowered wallpaper in this image. #5 There is then a transition from the cellphone to the collected vintage items laid out of the mantel. #6 The gnome has a look of rust to emphasize that it is very old. #7 and #8 are different objects that have been up for many many years and represent how old they are. #9 This image of the window solidifies looking out into the future of my grandparents lives which follows into image #10 as my grandparents are sitting on the porch looking into the distance and looking into the future.
